| a recently built two storey, 4 bedroom villa with a swimming pool positioned 1 km from each of the little villages of Assomatos and Lefkogia in the mountainous area of southern Crete. The villa (180sqm) is suitable for 10-12 people, and sits within 10,000sqm groves of olive and fruit trees, with attractive surrounding gardens of 2,000sqm, and a shady vine covered terrace. The pool is 40sqm in size with a children’s pool, and further facilities include a BBQ, and a play area for children. The open plan ground floor has a living room with a double sofa bed, Satellite TV, Radio/CD player, and leading off this there is a fully equipped kitchenette and dining area. There are two ground floor bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with twin beds, and two bathrooms, one with a corner bath/shower/WC and washing machine, and one with a shower/WC. On the first floor there are a further two bedrooms, each with one double bed and a single bed, and a further two showers/WC. All of the bedrooms open up to either a balcony or sun terrace with patio furniture, offering a variety of views over the glorious surrounding countryside, the Kourtaliotis gorge, all the way to the sea. All bedrooms have air conditioning (extra local charge), two of them have a TV and three come with a little fridge. For cooler spells the house is also equipped with central heating (extra local charge). 1 BABYCOT is available free of charge The nearest beaches are at Ammoudi approximately 2 km away, and Shoinaria with its diving centre is just 3 km away. Further beaches can be found at Preveli and Damnoni, each 5 km away, and at Plakias at approx 6 km distance. The nearest taverna is approx 50 metres away, and a small selection of little shops and tavernas can be found in the villages of Assomatos and Lefkogia, with a wider variety of all tourist amenities in the coastal town of Plakias. A car is essential. The old Cretan fishing village of Plakias with its little harbour, lies in a particularly beautiful landscape between the blue Libyan Sea and vast majestic mountains that edge down to one of the loveliest bays on the south coast. It is about one and a half hour’s drive from Chania or Heraklion. Many years ago, there were only a few houses, but today, because of its delightful setting, the village has spread to cater for the growing numbers of tourists, who have told each other of this special place that they have found. However, it still retains its particular Cretan character and has kept its laid back charm. The bay has a long sand and shingle beach between headlands that gets sandier the farther you go from the village. Not far from the old harbour are tiny bays and small coves where you can find quiet spots to sun bathe and swim. Boats sail daily to a variety of beaches, some of which have a good selection of water sports and the whole area is ideal for swimming, and sun bathing in a blissfully uncrowded setting. There is a variety of amenities for visitors and surrounding mountainous countryside. For short trips with minimum effort there is Preveli, the Venetian fortress at Frangokastello and the Minoan site at Phaistos are all well worth a visit. Further afield to the east you may like to visit the cliff caves of Matala and the ancient Roman capital of Gortys, or to the west the picturesque old town of Rethymno and the atmospheric old Monastery of Arkadi.
